Fond du Lac police are investigating a fight that left one person hospitalized, damaged a home and forced several people out of their residences early Saturday. Police were called to a home at 91 Third St. at about 1:03 a.m. after receiving a cellular phone call that several people were out in the street fighting with wooden clubs and a knife, said Police Lt. Aaron Goldstein. “There was a house party going on inside, and from what we can tell, the fight started inside over a pool game that eventually spilled out into the street with two groups fighting each other,” Goldstein said. He estimated the ages of the participants to be in their mid-20s to late-20s. Goldstein said that an individual was struck by a vehicle that was leaving the scene. After striking the man, the driver of the vehicle lost control, hitting a couple of parked vehicles and subsequently a gas meter and a residence at 78 Third St., Goldstein said. Occupants of several nearby residences had to be evacuated from their homes due to the gas leak, he said. The injured man was transported to St. Agnes Hospital and underwent surgery for injuries, Goldstein said. He was unable to release details of the man’s identity on Saturday due to the ongoing investigation. One of the occupants of the vehicle, a 29-year-old Fond du Lac man, was taken into custody on five outstanding warrants. Another occupant of the vehicle was also taken into custody. “At this point of the investigation, we’re not sure who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash,” Goldstein said. “Both of the vehicle occupants were injured, one from the impact of the crash and the other from the fight itself. “We expect that we will be forwarding charges of operating a motor vehicle causing great bodily harm. Alcohol was definitely a factor in this incident, and we may be making more arrests depending on the outcome of the investigation.”
